Band Teacher Topic: Social Music Band Project
Brian Kling is the Head Instrumental Instructor for the Mediapolis Community School District in Mediapolis, IA. At “Mepo”, he directs the high school concert, jazz, marching, and pep bands, teaches independent study music theory and conducting courses, as well as beginning 5th grade band. Outside of the school district, Brian started the Mediapolis Community Band, which is beginning its 3rd year of performances, and helped organize the Mediapolis Community Choir, which is in its 2nd year. Brian leads the Mediapolis Community Youth Group worship band, plays with a local praise band on Sundays, and performs with the Muscatine Symphony Orchestra. Outside of music, Brian enjoys running, kayaking, fishing, and cheering on the St. Louis Blues and Green Bay Packers.
Brian is originally from Muscatine, IA, graduated from Muscatine High School in ’06, and Augustana College (IL) in ’10. Brian was also a member of the previous UNI MME cohort and graduated in ’16. Jon Batiste talking about Social Music
