About Mark Russell Smith
Mark Russell Smith will be joining us on Tuesday. He is a remarkable musician/educator/conductor. I have been able to work with him on a number of occasions through collaborations with the Quad City Symphony and the Quad City Choral Arts (I sang tenor). His fluidity of directing both the orchestra and choir were aww inspiring. He has a number of positions held currently, which I feel makes him an interesting speaker for our class. From his work with the Quad City Symphony, University of Minnesota, and the Youth Symphonies allows him to speak on education, advocacy, community relations, and so much more. After this week's speakers, I feel it would be of interest to also ask about his position on competition within a symphony orchestra, should traditional ensembles and/or teaching be changed in music ed classroom, and what is the state of professional orchestras and how do we make them relevant to today's community.
